PURPOSE: To provide an automatic focus matching device performing focusing evaluation according to a signal from a low-frequency component emphasis type band-pass filter, judging whether an extreme value is true or false by finely advancing/retreating a focusing optical system and monitoring the inclination of the focusing evaluation value of the signal of a high-frequency component emphasis type band-pass filter at the time of detecting the extreme value, and if it is a false extreme value, performing focusing evaluation by the high-frequency component emphasis type band- pass filter, and searching the true extreme value, thereafter.
CONSTITUTION: At the time of starting focus driving, the focusing evaluation is performed according to the signal of a 2nd BPF12 whose cut-off frequency is low, and at the time of detecting the extreme value, the ratio (V1/V2) of the focusing evaluation values of a 1st BPF11 and the 2nd BPF12 is obtained and compared with a threshold Td. When it is more than Td, it is set as the true extreme value, and when it is less than Td, a focusing system lens 3 is wobbled so as to monitor the change of the 1st focusing evaluation value V1 of the 1st BPF11 whose cut-off frequency is high. When V1 is the extreme value, it is set as the true extreme value, and when it is not the extreme value, the focusing system lens 3 is driven while performing the focusing evaluation at V1, thereafter.
