To improve the operability of focusing by connecting a motor driving means to a lens moving means, only when automatic focusing is performed and disconnecting the motor driving means, when the automatic focusing is not performed.

The lens moving means (rack) 12a is fixed on a focusing lens 12 and a pinion 12b is engaged with the rack 12a. The pinion 12b can be driven by either of manual focusing by a focusing operation knob 16 and the automatic focusing by a focus detecting system 20 and a focusing lens driving system 30. In other words, an electromagnetic clutch is in a disconnected state, until an AF starting switch 27 is turned on and the motor driving means (AF motor) 31 is disconnected from the pinion 12b, so that the manual focusing operation knob 16 is manually operated to rotate, for enabling focusing. When the AF starting switch 27 is turned on, the electromagnetic clutch is turned on and the AF motor 31 is connected to the pinion 12b, to execute the automatic focusing.
