Abstract:

PURPOSE: To correctly perform the automatic setting of a measuring range even in the case of measuring an observation material which has planes of plural heights and in which slops among respective planes are steep.
CONSTITUTION: This device is provided with an image processing unit 14 counting thc number of pixels becoming a level not more than the signal level set by the output signal level of a photodetector 13 by setting an arbitrary signal level with respect to the output signal of the photodetector 13 and the number of plane areas having different heights of a material R and detecting whether the scanning position of the observation material 8 is a plane area or not by whether the number of pixels obtained while performing the movement in an optical axis direction with a Z moving circuit 15 becomes equal to or larger than the number of previously set pixels and detecting the upper limit and the lower limit of the material 8 based on the detection result and the number of set plane areas.
