To provide automatic item sorting equipment that improves processing capability without damaging items.
The equipment comprises a separating device 1 for separating one carton at a time onto a first belt conveyor 11 from the lower take-out opening of a storage case storing stacks of many brands of cigarette cartons CT, and a stacking device 2 for receiving and stacking onto a receiving plate five cartons at a time which are carried by the first belt conveyor 11, and then feeding each five cartons to a second belt conveyor 12. The equipment further comprises a boxing device 4 for pushing each stack of cartons carried by the second belt conveyor 12 into an empty box KB carried by a third belt conveyor 13. The separating device 1 separates each carton such that the longitudinal direction of the carton is perpendicular to the carrying direction of the first belt conveyor 11.
