SOLUTION: An automatic liquid crystal panel grasping apparatus 150 of the panel carrier for an automatic probe unit has transfer carriage transfer screws 152, a transfer carriage bracket block 156 which is transferred along the respective screws 152, a transfer carriage 162 which is mounted with grippers 158 and 159 coupled to the block 156 to clamp the liquid crystal panel, a transfer carriage moving distance varying means 160 which adjusts the moving distance of both ends of the transfer carriage 162 at both ends of the transfer carriage 162, detecting means 157 which are attached to the grippers 158 and 159 and detect the sizes etc., of the liquid crystal panel, and a control section which controls the operation of the screws 152 and the gripper 159 according to the detection signals of the detecting means 157.
