PURPOSE: To protect roller pairs from abrasion for improved feeding efficiency by providing a plurality of detectors for generating signals on detecting reference end surfaces and opposite end surfaces of originals and stopping rotation of check rollers in a separator in response to the output signals thereof.

CONSTITUTION: An original table having at the lower surface access rollers carries laminated originals 1 (1-1W1-3) arranged along a reference end 30 thereof, and there are provided in the forward direction of feeding of the original table adjacent thereto a plurality couples of upper and lower check roller pairs 8 (8-1W8-4) and separation rollers 13 (13-1W13-4) disposed along the width of the original table. There are provided under the original table optical original detectors 18 (18-1W18-3) at positions corresponding to the end surfaces of the respective original groups AWC opposite to the reference end 30. In response to the outputs from these detectors, solenoids 12 (12-1W12-4) serving as actuators are operated to stop rotation of the corresponding check rollers 8 but to permit free rotation of the other check rollers 8 irrelevant to feeding, resulting in smooth separation and feeding of the originals.
