PURPOSE: To save manual labor and enhance economy and productivity in packing toothpicks by introducing an integrated automatic packing system wherein toothpicks are measured out in a set quantity and put into retail containers on the first conveyor and the containers are fitted with caps on the second conveyor.

CONSTITUTION: While the transfer seats 3a of a first conveyor 1 travel, toothpicks A are put through a hopper 6 into the measures of measuring units 4 mounted on the transfer seats 3 on the one hand and container-holding means 5 on the same seats 3 take hold of containers B on the other hand. As they travel on the conveyor, the toothpicks A in the measures are pushed into the containers B by the action of a pushing-in means 10. While the containers B' filled with the toothpicks A are carried on a second conveyor 2, the containers B' are pushed with the open ends forward by a pushing-out means 16 toward caps held by cap-holding cylinders 15 so as to fit the caps C thereon. Pushed by pistons 47, the containers B' fitted with the caps C are landed onto a carrier board 48 provided beside the cap-carrying conveyor 13 and carried away.
