PURPOSE: To return the swelling remaining in middle paper to the original stretched state by the rigidity of the middle paper itself by moving the part where a swelling is formed of the middle paper to the area between a feed roller and a turning-over roller and bringing a clamp roller into contact with the feed roller under pressure to bring the feed roller to an open state.

CONSTITUTION: A passbook 3 is fed into an automatic page feed device by feed rollers 9a, 9b, 10a, 10b, turning-over rollers 1, 2 and clamp rollers 5, 6 to be stopped at a predetermined position. A pag feed motor 4 is controlled to rotate only the turning-over roller 1 to spring up middle paper. At this time, a magnet 7 is controlled to set the clamp roller 5 to an OFF-state in order to remove the swelling of the adjacent middle paper and the passbook 3 is fed in the reverse direction. Thereafter, the clamp roller 5 is set to an ON-state and a magnet 11 is controlled to turn the feed roller 9b OFF to return the middle paper to the original stretched state by the rigidity of the middle paper itself to eliminate the remaining swelling of the middle paper.
