PURPOSE: To automatically position a paper, by a method wherein a paper detector is provided on the forward side of a tractor feeding a paper, and feeding of the paper is stopped when the leading end of the paper fed by the tractor is detected by the paper detector.

CONSTITUTION: After setting the paper 1, a starting button 7 is depressed, and when the paper 1 is not detected by a sensor 6, a motor for driving the tractor 4 is rotated to feed the paper 1, and when the paper 1 is detected by the sensor 6, the rotation of the motor is stopped to stop the feeding of the paper 1, whereby the paper is automatically positioned at a predetermined position.
