To provide an automatic penetration test machine which measures a load actually applied on a penetration rod, and performs correction for the application of a desired load by feeding back the measured load.

The automatic penetration test machine 1 includes: an elevating base 3 capable of ascending and descending along an erected support; a chuck 5 which is provided on the elevating base 3 and can hold the penetration rod 4 penetrating the ground accompanied by the descending of the elevating base 3; a load detecting means 26 which can detect the load applied on the penetration rod; a drive means 8 for ascending/descending which is provided for the operation of ascending/descending the elevating base, and can change the load applied on the penetration rod 4 to a predetermined load by adjusting output torque; and a control unit 10 which compares a value detected by the load detecting means 26 with a target value of a load applied on the penetration rod 4, and controls the drive of the driving means 8 so that the load actually applied on the penetration rod 4 can reach a target value.
