PURPOSE: To eliminate the need for manual operation and perform automatic playing of a record simply by placing the record disc on a turntable by providing a start mechanism and size detecting mechanism on the back of the turntable.
CONSTITUTION: When, e.g., an LP record disc 60, is placed on a turntable 1, a start detecting pin 5 and record size detecting pin 11 are pushed downward, causing a start switch 8 to go ON to run a motor 13. At the same time, a start solenoid 48 is energized and since the foregoing detecting switch 12 is ON, a pickup arm 18 ascends and turns up to the lead-in position of the LP record disc 60, hence it descends and start playing. At the same time, the number of revolutions of the turntable 1 is changed over to the specified number of revolutions by way of a changeover plate 37 or the like. In this way, the record may be automatically played in the absence of touch simply by placing the same on the turntable.
