PURPOSE: To polish a worked surface to a demanded surface roughness and shorten the working time, by installing an operation controller for executing the polishing processes having different polishing directions in a desired number of times, on a polishing member.

CONSTITUTION: A polishing member is revolved by a motor device installed on a tool head 2, and successively performs polishing along a predetermined direction from a predetermined starting point on a polished surface A to a predetermined completion point of the polished surface A by an operation controller 20. Using this predetermined completion point as starting point, operation is performed so as to carry out polishing towards the predetermined starting point along the direction different from the predetermined direction. The number of times of execution in the polishing process is set by the operation controller 20, and the polishing member is pressed by a nearly constant pressure on the polished surface by a pressurizing device installed on the tool head 2 during the polishing work. Accordingly, in the repetitive polishing, polishing can be carried out without lifting up the polishing member from the polished surface, and the unevenness on the polished surface can be suppressed.
