To correct displacement of a point of riveting by a riveter due to rotation of a panel, during correction of perpendicularity to a surface.
An automatic riveting apparatus includes: a panel fixture to which a panel P is fixed; a rotary mechanism for rotating the panel fixture; a lifting and lowering mechanism for lifting and lowering both ends of the panel fixture; a riveter body movable in the horizontal direction by a horizontal movement mechanism; a perpendicularity-to-surface sensor 16 mounted to the riveter body and operable to measure a perpendicularity to a surface at a position where to drive a rivet to the panel; and a control device for controlling the rotary mechanism, the lifting and lowering mechanism and the horizontal movement mechanism. In the automatic riveting apparatus, the control device operates the rotary mechanism and the lifting and lowering mechanism based on a measurement value of the perpendicularity-to-surface sensor 16 to correct perpendicularity to a surface of the panel P, and also moves the riveter body in the horizontal direction based on a rotation angle R of the panel and a distance D to the surface of the panel P from a rotation center O when perpendicularity to a surface is corrected by the rotary mechanism and the lifting and lowering mechanism.
