To structure a robot to be wrapped around a cylindrical member such as a chimney or cylinder, thereby enabling free go up and down on the cylindrical member without being detached therefrom without using a balance.
The robot is provided with: a ring-shaped body 32 to be attached to the cylindrical member C by being wrapped therearound; a thrust generating section 33 with a plurality of elastic hair-like bodies 3 disposed to be inclined downward to the vertical centerline of the cylindrical member C; a vibrating section 34 to vibrate a group of hair-like bodies 3 so that the hair-like bodies 3 are deflected and restored to generate thrust in a predetermined direction; and an engaging tool 36 comprising a latch mechanism attached where two approximately circular arc-shaped casings 35 are joined together such that they are shifted from each other to vary the circumferential length of the ring-shaped body 32.
