PURPOSE: To detect the commodity name code in many number of digits and to easily set the commodity name code through the change in magnetic field generated from a coil, by loading a conductor such as aluminum foil as a commodity name mark and providing a high frequency magnetic field generating coil corresponding to the commodity name mark.

CONSTITUTION: A commodity name mark 2 for data setting with sticked conductor such as aluminum foil is located to a set position 1 of an automatic setter, and a holder loaded with the mark 2 is located with a high frequency magnetic field generating coil 3 corresponding to the mark 2. An oscillator 4 having the resonance circuit is connected to each coil 3 and the change in the oscillation state of the oscillator 4 when the mark 2 is closed to the coil 3 is detected with a conductor presence/absence section 5a detecting the deficiency of the oscillated amplitude and discriminating the presence/absence of the conductor and a magnetic substance presence/absence detection section 5b detecting the change in the oscillation frequency. Many digits of commodity codes are detected with the magnetic field change of the coil 3 and the setting of the commodity name code is made easy.
