PURPOSE: To avoid an obstacle existing on a drive lane through smooth steering by means of the automatic steering device for vehicle.
CONSTITUTION: The device is provided with a steering actuator 19 steering a steering wheel 2, a lane recognition means 6 recognizing a drive lane and a steering control means 5 controlling the drive of the steering actuator 19, and also with an obstacle recognition means 7 recognizing an obstacle on the drive lane and a vehicle velocity detection means 12 detecting a relative vehicle velocity with respect to the obstacle, and the steering control means 5 is provided with an obstacle avoidance steering control means 18 avoiding the vehicle 1 to an obstacle avoidance area at the side of the obstacle, and the obstacle avoidance steering control by the obstacle avoidance steering control means 18 is made up of a program steering control steering in the preset steering mode and a feedback steering control based on drive lane information from the lane recognition means 6 and the program steering control is implemented based on the relative distance and the relative vehicle velocity with respect to the obstacle.
