To provide an automatic tagging device for acquiring area information, and for adding the area information to an area as an area tag.
The control part of an automatic tagging device reads map data, and divides the map data by meshes in the processing of steps S1 and S2. Then, the control part selects an untagged mesh in the processing of a step S5, and calculates the latitudes/longitudes or addresses of four corners from the mesh name of the selected mesh as an extraction parameter, and transmits the extraction parameter to the area information acquisition part of the automatic tagging deice in the processing of a step S6. The area information acquisition part extracts area information from a POI(Point Of Interest) DB, a national census DB and Web on the basis of the extraction parameter, and returns the area information to the control part in the processing of a step S7. The control part 11 extracts a tag from the area information obtained in the processing of the step S7, and associates the tag with the mesh name by referring to a tag matching DB in the processing of a step S9, and stores the associated mesh name and tag in a mesh name and tag name group recording DB 23 in the processing of a step S10.
