PURPOSE: To enable highly accurate operation control without sacrifice of riding comfort by by determining the operating contact of an acceleration/deceleration notch through fuzzy logic reasoning based on the difference between the current speed and the target speed in the current position of a train and the variation rate of the difference.
CONSTITUTION: An automatic train operating unit comprises a target pattern generating section 2 for generating a target pattern sp3 of train travel speed based on current positional information and current speed information sp2 provided from a traveling train 1, and a controller section 3 for performing fuzzy logic reasoning based on the current speed information sp2 of the train 1 and the target pattern sp3 generated from the target pattern generating section 2 and determining the operating contact of an acceleration/deceleration notch. Automatic operational control of the train 1 is carried out while the operating contact of the acceleration/deceleration notch is being determined through fuzzy reasoning. By such arrangement, highly accurate automatic operation control of the train 1 is realized without sacrifice of riding comfort.
