To provide an automatic transmission provided with a backlash preventing structure for a carrier composing a planetary gearing mechanism.
When a reverse clutch mechanism 6 is engaged, a forward clutch mechanism 5 is in a disengaged state, and rotating directions of an input shaft 1 and an automatic transmission mechanism are the same, a direction of tips of a sun gear 4s meshing with a first pinion gear 4p1 is set such that a direction of axial force of the input shaft caused in the sun gear during meshing, faces a side opposite to the carrier 4c, and a direction of tips of a ring gear 4r meshing with a second pinion gear 4p2 is set such that a direction of axial force caused in the ring gear during meshing, faces a carrier side.
