This automatic traveling apparatus has a driving source and driving wheels which are driven by the driving source, and makes a traveling body automatically travel by the driving of the driving wheels. At the same time, the automatic traveling apparatus is rotatably fixed to the traveling body. In the automatic traveling apparatus, the switching of the traveling direction of the traveling body is performed from advancing to retracting by switching the driving wheels from the normal rotation to the reverse rotation when the load of a motor which is used as the driving source is a specified value or higher, and also, the rotating angle to the traveling body is a specified value or higher.
