Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably carry out automatic trailing travel while keeping an inter- vehicle distance between the previous car properly on a road under a fixed condition such as an automatic travel only road in which a magnetic information source is arranged in each traffic lane, for example, and to stably control the inter-vehicle distance more smoothly when a vehicle is started, accelerated, decelerated, or stopped.
SOLUTION: If a speed of its own vehicle is the predetermined speed Vd or more, an increasing/decreasing speed of its own vehicle is controlled on the basis of the first relative relationship between the its own vehicle speed V, which is decided so as to regulate an inter-vehicle distance in proportion to the speed, and an inter-vehicle distance L, and if its own vehicle speed is the predetermined speed Vd or less, an increasing/decreasing speed of its own vehicle is controlled on the basis of the second relative relationship between its own speed V, which is decided so as to increase the inter-vehicle distance in compliance with the speed gently as against in the first relative relationship, and the inter-vehicle distance L.
