PURPOSE: To enable a computer to recognize the kinds of the types, in a printing device wherein a type cassette can be loaded or unloaded, by reading the kinds of the types through the type kind display means in the loaded cassette.

CONSTITUTION: When the cassette 3 wherein the types are contained is loaded in the specified position of the printing device 1, a type belt 32 and the like which are contained in the cassette are mechanically linked to the mechanism of the printing device 1. The display means 30 which displays the kinds of the types is provided in the cassette 3. When the cassette is loaded, the display means 30 is connected with a reading part 10 in the printing device 1, and the display can be read through the reading part 10. The display means 30 displays, e.g. the type kind codes up to 8 kinds in 3 bits. If a parity check bit of 1 bit is added, reading errors can be detected.
