PURPOSE: To automate welding by welding by a welding carriage to move on a rail with a groove fitted to a box pillar surounding its periphery.
CONSTITUTION: A rail main body formed into a straight line and a circular- arcuate shape corresponding to a part of the side and a corner part of the box pillar 20, respectively, suround the box pillar as a whole. In addition, the first and second groove parts provide on both sides thereof, the third groove part 6 provided in circular-arccuate shape with a corner as a central point, a rail part 5 having a rack formed in the rail axial direction, a couple of guide rollers 2a and 2b to sandwich it from the second groove and a guide roller 4 to rotate in the groove 6 are provided. The welding carriage 1 is then moved along the rail part 5 by rotational driving via a pinion and a rack from a motor to perform welding. In this way, full automation of welding of the box pillar can be performed.
