PURPOSE: To ensure safety of an automatic opening/closing apparatus by providing a storage means for storing the reference current and a current detecting means for detecting a current flowing through a motor and then comparing a current waveform for operation of the motor in the closing direction obtained by the current detecting means with the reference current waveform.

CONSTITUTION: A drive means 32 for determining the opening/closing direction with an operating means 31 provided to select the opening/closing direction and a current detecting means 34 for detecting the current of a motor 6 to be driven by the drive means 32 are provided. After power-on is reset and a reset switch 22 is turned on, the current waveform of the closing operation detected by the current detecting means 34 is stored in a storage means 35 as the reference current waveform. Moreover, the closing operation current waveform of the motor 6 obtained by the current detecting means 34 is compared with the reference current waveform stored in the storage means 35 with a comparing means 36. Thereby, the motor 6 can be driven in the safety mode, resulting in less malfunction and improved safety.
