Abstract:
To provide an automobile engine with a piston ring and a piston skirt having improved scuffing and wear resistance and greatly reduced friction.
The automobile engine comprises a cylinder block bore portion 2a formed of an eutectic or hypereutectic aluminum alloy, and the piston ring 4 and the piston skirt 3a to be slid relative to the cylinder block bore portion 2a under the existence of lubricating oil. Each of portions of the piston ring 4 and the piston skirt 3a to be slid relative to the cylinder block bore portion 2a is covered with a hard carbon thin film 5. The amount of hydrogen atoms contained in the hard carbon thin film 5 is 1 atom% or less.
