PURPOSE: To run a vehicle at an optimum fuel consumption by driving selectively either an engine or electric motors, or both of them, according to the running condition of the vehicle.
CONSTITUTION: An engine 10 to drive either the front wheels 2 or the rear wheels 3, electric motors 30 to drive either the rear wheels or the front wheels other than those driven by the engine 10, and an automatic transmission 20 to transmit the power of the engine to the wheels by speed-change controlling the power automatically are provided. And a vehicle control device 40 to use selectively either the engine or the motors, or both of them, depending on the running condition of the vehicle is also provided to composed this compound power source system. Since an optimum motive power source is selected depending on the running condition of the vehicle, the running at an optimum fuel consumption can be realized.
