To provide a technology of enhancing visibility while reducing glare given to a preceding vehicle.
An automotive headlamp apparatus includes headlamp units placed in a vehicle and a control means which controls the illumination of light by the headlamp units according to an existent area in which a preceding vehicle traveling forward of one's own vehicle is existent. The headlamp units are configured so that a partial region of the high beam distribution pattern is brought into a non-illuminated state. The control means determines the existent area without including any preceding vehicle not located in a predetermined range in the vertical direction when viewed from one's own vehicle, and controls the headlamp units in such a manner that the partial region is brought into a non-illuminated state if the entirety of the existent area is included in the partial region, and controls the headlamp units in such a manner that the high beam distribution pattern is not formed if at least a part of the existent area is included in the region of the high beam distribution pattern other than the partial region to be non-illuminated.
