Abstract:
PURPOSE:To improve the running ability of an autonomous traveling vehicle. CONSTITUTION:In this autonomous traveling method which enables vehicles to make autonomous traveling by selecting plural scanning lines from a picture taken from the traveling path in front of the vehicles and obtaining information for the autonomous traveling of the vehicles from the selected scanning lines, the scanning lines are selected, for example, at regular intervals from the whole picture as shown by pictures 20a, 20b, and 20c for vehicles 20a and 20b which are far from the intersection and a vehicle 20d which crosses the intersection straight and at shorter intervals from the part of the picture showing the intersection and at longer intervals from the part of the picture showing an area far from the intersection for a vehicle 20c near the intersection. Therefore, the information contained in the picture can be utilized efficiently without using any expensive processor, etc.
