To provide an auxiliary-chamber type internal combustion engine capable of reducing a cooling loss, by restraining the deterioration in fuel economy.
This auxiliary-chamber type internal combustion engine 100 has a main combustion chamber 63, an auxiliary-combustion chamber 161 and communicating passages 162a to 162d. The auxiliary-combustion chamber 161 is adjacent to the main combustion chamber 63. The communicating passages 162a to 162d change flames F101a to F101d in a shorter shape in the direction parallel to the cylinder axis CA than the direction along a surface vertical to the cylinder axis CA. The flames F101a to F101d are a flame injected into the main combustion chamber 63 from the auxiliary-combustion chamber 161.
