To provide an awareness detector capable of detecting awareness with good accuracy regardless of individuality of detection target person or his environmental circumference.
The information concerning the awareness of a detection target person is measured by a sensor 10 and from that information, the characteristics concerning the awareness of the detection target person is extracted by a characteristics extraction means 20. By aid of a characteristics selection threshold value setting means 51, a characteristics selection threshold value is set for selecting whether the characteristics are those under aware state or those under awareness deteriorated state, based upon the frequency distribution of the extracted characteristics by defining high frequency range as aware state of the detection target person. In the case of detecting the awareness grade, characteristics extracted by a characteristics extracting means 20 are subjected to selection by aid of the characteristics selection threshold value by means of a characteristics selection means 31 and the awareness grade is estimated from the selection results by means of an awareness grade estimating means 40.
