To provide an axial one-way clutch capable of locking a rod movable in two directions, in one direction when needed.
A wedge-shaped space 8 narrowed at its axial one end, is formed between an inner periphery of a housing 1 and an outer periphery of the rod 4 inserted inside of the housing 1, and a conical roller 9 and a retainer 10 for retaining the conical roller 9 are incorporated in the wedge-shaped space 8. Elastic force of an elastic member 12 is applied to the retainer 10 to energize the retainer toward the narrow portion of the wedge-shaped space 8, thus the rod 4 is locked in one direction by engagement of the conical roller 9 with the narrow portion of the wedge-shaped space 8. Further a cam ring 13 is incorporated in the narrow portion of the wedge-shaped space 8, and a torque cam 17 is mounted between opposite faces of the cam ring 13 and the retainer 10 so that the retainer 10 is moved toward a wide portion of the wedge-shaped space 8 against pressing force of the elastic member 12 by pressing and releasing the retainer 10 by the torque cam 17, and the conical roller 9 is released from the narrow portion of the wedge-shaped space 8, thus the rod 4 is allowed to move to two directions.
