PURPOSE: To make an axle box device compact and light, and facilitate the assembly work thereof in a railway rolling stock, about which reduction of weight is a main subject with recent speed-up of railway foiling stock.
CONSTITUTION: A piece part for pressing an outer wheel of a bearing to the thrust direction is provided in an axle end side of an axle box body 3, and a semi-circular rear cover 10, in which a horn part for hoisting a wheel set is formed integrally, is fastened to an opposite axle end side of the axle box body 3 to fix a bearing 4 for axle. Since the rear cover 10 is formed into semi- circular, at the time of assembly of the axle box, the rear cover 10 can be inserted for assembly after assembling the bearing and the axle box to the axle to facilitate the assembly work. Furthermore, since fixation of the bearing in the thrust direction is performed with the piece part provided in the axle box body and the rear cover, structure of a front cover is simplified to make the axle body compact and light.
