Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the subject new compound, excellent in heat resistance, capable of introducing a protecting group of hydroxyl group capable of being deprotected under mild conditions and useful for protecting hydroxyl group in various compounds having the hydroxyl group, especially the hydroxyl group of a sacccharide and a derivative thereof.
SOLUTION: This compound is represented by formula I (A is a halogen; B is a halogen or H; X is a group reactive with hydroxyl group), e.g. 4-azido-3- chlorotoluene. The compound represented by formula I in which V is a halogen is obtained by treating an aminohalogenotoluene represented by formula II with sodium nitrite in an aqueous solution of hydrochloric acid, thereby providing an azidohalogenotoluene and further reacting the resultant azidohalogenotoluene with an N-halogenosuccinimide in the presence of a catalyst such as 2,2'-azobisisobutyronitrile in a suitable solvent, as necessary, in an inert gas stream under shielded light.
