To obtain an azo lake pigment composition having a high clarity, a high color intensity, and a vivid hue by selecting a composition obtained by coupling an aromatic diazonium compound with 3-hydroxy-2-naphthoic acid and containing a pigment and an auxochrome component.
This composition contains a pigment of formula I and an auxochrome component of formula II. In formulae I and II, X is H, Ca, Ba, Sr, Mg, Mn, or Al; R1 to R3 are each H, a 1-4C alkyl, phenyl, a halogen, NO2, or CF3; R4 is R1 or a group of formula III; X' is X; R'1 to R'3 are each R1; X" is X; at least one of R5 to R9 is a 1-4C alkoxy, and the rest are each R1 or SO3H; R7 may be a group of formula IV; R'5, R'6, R'8, and R'9 are each R5; and X"' is X. The composition can be produced by diazotizing an amine of formula V with an amine of formula VI and coupling the diazotized amines with a coupling component. In formulae V and VI, R4 is R1 or a group of formula VIII; R7 is R1, SO3H, or a group of formula IX. The amount of the auxochrome component added to the pigment is desirably about 0.01-10.0 wt.% based on the weight of the pigment.
