Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a new compound having high isomerization reaction rate and large variation in absorption wavelength, having yellowish brown powdery form, exhibiting highly reversible and durable photochromism and useful for optical memory material, etc.
CONSTITUTION: The compound of formula (X1 and X2 are nitro or nitro- containing group; R is hydroxyl-containing group or a polymer bonded through the group), e.g. 2,2'-dinitro-4-hydroxyazobenzene. The compound of formula can be produced e.g. by diazotizing o-nitroaniline and coupling with m- nitrophenol.
