To provide a back cover data printing apparatus incorporated in a printing press such as an electrophotographic copier or a post-treatment device of a bookbinding apparatus provided to the printing press, capable of being used as the exclusive post-treatment device provided to the printing press and capable of applying proper back cover printing to the cover of bookbinding matter at a predetermined position corresponding to the thickness (back width) of the bookbinding matter.
A back cover data printing apparatus is equipped with a printer 3 printing predetermined back cover data on bookbinding matter consisting of a plurality of pages and a data processing means 2 processing back cover data printed corresponding to the thickness of the bookbindlng matter. When the book cover data is character data, the data processing means 2 has function of any one or more attribute selected from the kind, size and printing color of the font thereof and, when the back cover data is image data, the data processing means 2 has function determining any one or more attribute selected from the contraction and magnification ratio, resolving power and image color in the image data.
