Abstract:

To enable an occurrence of chatter marks to be easily detected.

In a back-up roll for a tension lever device, a radial load applying bearing 33 and thrust load applying bearings 34 are arranged between a roll 32 and a shaft 31, and contact/non-contact sealing portions 35 closing a bearing space between the roll 32 and the shaft 31 are arranged axially outside the bearings 33 and 34. The back-up roll for the tension leveler device further includes a rotation speed detecting means 40 capable of detecting a rotation speed of the roll 32 with respect to the shaft 31. By providing the rotation speed detecting means 40 on the back-up roll 30, the rotation speed of the roll 32 with respect to the shaft 31 can be detected, and an occurrence of chatter marks can be easily detected based on fluctuation of the rotation speed.
