To obtain a back wash regeneration-type ceramic honeycomb filter which can be easily manufactured and also be efficiently regenerated by sealing the gas exhaust side end part of a through hole in a porous ceramic honeycomb structure with a porous ceramic wall with a thickness of a specific value.
The gas exhaust side end part of a specified through hole 3 in a porous ceramic honeycomb structure is sealed with porous ceramic diaphragms 5, 7 with a thickness 0.6-2.5 times that of a diaphragm 4 in the through hole 3. The ideal ceramic honeycomb structure has a through hole 3 with a length of 100-300mm and a cross section of 4-20mm2, and with a diaphragm 4 thickness of 0.3-0.6mm. Thus it is possible to cause a high-pressure back wash air flow to pass even through a sealed part and consequently, very easily remove particulate even in and near the sealed part from which it should otherwise be difficult to remove the particulate. Thus this back wash regeneration-type ceramic honeycomb filter demonstrates its superb back wash regenerating properties.
