A

PURPOSE: To improve the retrieving efficiency of balls and permit stabilized washing operation, by a method wherein a pipeline for pouring fluid from another system and making the same fluid flow reversely is connected to a discharging pipeline from a collector.

CONSTITUTION: In washing operation, a back-washing water supplying valve 19 is closed and sponge balls 10, retrieved by a collector 9, are elevated by a ball circulating pump 12 through a ball retrieving pipe 11 to transfer them into a ball retrieving device 13. Upon back-washing operation, a second valve 23 for the outlet port of the collector is closed fully and a back-washing water stop valve 20 is opened whereby fluid from a supplementing water system is supplied to the ball retrieving pipeline 11 and the collector 9 to remove marine organisms. Upon washing operation, a grate in the collector 9 is kept in fully closed or in an intermediate opening degree in order to discharge the removed foreign substances to the downstream side of the collector 9 by back-washing and increase the effect of the same operation.
