Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a backing for large heat input electro-slag welding capable of obtaining weld metal having excellent toughness of at least 70 J in Chapry absorbed energy at 0°C when a high tensile steel material having tensile strength in a class of 400-600 MPa is electro-slag welded with the welding heat input of about 500-1,500 kJ/cm.
SOLUTION: The backing for the large heat input electro-slag welding is formed of, by mass %, 0.02-0.34% C, 0.05-1.5% Si, and 0.5-3.5% Mn, and further, ≤0.012% P, ≤0.008% S, ≤0.008% N, ≤0.003% O, and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities.
