PURPOSE: To provide a backing material for artificial lawn, producible from inexpensive materials, having excellent processability, giving a lawn having similar impact resilience to natural lawn, and consisting of a single cell sponge containing an acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber, polyvinyl chloride, and styrene-butadiene rubber.

CONSTITUTION: 50W70pts.wt. of an acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber is mixed with 30W50pts.wt. of polyvinyl chloride to obtain the first polymer, which is mixed with 80W120pts.wt. of a styrene-butadiene rubber close to a high-styrene rubber and containing 40W50wt% of styrene. The obtained second polymer is incorporated with a filler, a foaming agent, etc., and formed to a sheet to obtain the objective backing material for artificial lawn.
