PURPOSE: To provide a backing strip for one side welding which is freely deformable in longitudinal and twist directions and lends itself to a bending member by pasting a flux formed into a tile shape continuously to Al foil having an adhesive part to a steel material to form an integral construction, and providing a slag pocket contacting with the rear of a groove thereto.
CONSTITUTION: The above-mentioned backing strip is constituted by pasting continuously a solid flux 1 of a tile shape having a slag pocket 2 on the side contacting with the rear of the groove of a base metal 3 to be welded to Al foil 4 having an adhesive part 5 to a steel material and uniting the same to one body. Since the pocket 2 is provided, part of the slag formed by the flux packed in the wire is made flowable to the rear of a penetration bead 8. A slag layer 10 is formed uniformly between the flux 1 and the bead 8, whereby the uniform penetration bead 8 having gloss is formed. Such backing strip has the above- described characteristic and is satisfactorily adaptable in a dislocated groove as well.
