Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow a backing strip used for welding by abutting a square column to be bent at the site by an operator and to be easily abutted in accordance with a shape of the square column, and to suppress omission of the backing strip during the weldment.SOLUTION: The backing strip is formed of a rectangular and thin metal plate having two parallel long sides 11. On one surface of the backing strip, three or more grooves 12 vertical to the long sides are formed in an adjacent state. Depth of the groove 12 becomes shallower as going to a part near the long sides, and becomes deeper as going to a part near the center of the groove. In addition, widths of the three or more grooves 12 become narrower on outer grooves, and become wider on the central groove or grooves in the vicinity of the center.
