To improve assembly performance of a backlight unit and realize narrow frame and thinning of a liquid crystal display device.
A panel receptacle/rib for reinforcement is provided on a light guide plate 13 and it is functioned also as a frame. Different from the case in which the backlight unit member is assembled in the conventional frame which is thin and has warping and bending by its own weight, the member can be assembled into the frame (light guide plate) having rigidity, therefore, assembly loss is improved, and the workability can be further improved. Furthermore, since further small-sizing and thinning than the outline size and thickness of the conventional frame become possible, narrow frame and thinning as a liquid crystal display device are realized. Furthermore, a groove for lamp assembly is provided on the light guide plate 13 and a reflection film is provided on the groove by sheet pasting, coating, and vapor deposition or the like, thereby eliminating a lamp cover.
