To provide a backlight unit and a liquid crystal display using the same excellent in heat radiation and reflection performance and capable of having manufacturing cost restrained.
The backlight unit is provided with an aluminum substrate with an anodic oxidation coating equipped with a through-hole formed in penetration in a thickness direction, with its surface, rear face and an inner wall face of the through-hole coated with anodic oxidation coating, a light-emitting source mounted on the surface of the aluminum substrate, and a wiring layer fitted at the rear face of the aluminum substrate to be electrically connected with the light-emitting source through the through-hole. The anodic oxidation coating is provided with micropores in a thickness direction from the surface of the anodic oxidation coating, with a length of a center line of the micropores to a depth of the same (length/depth) of 1.0 to 1.2.
