There are disclosed a backlight unit and a display apparatus including the backlight unit. The backlight unit includes: a first substrate including a phosphor layer and an anode electrode; and a second substrate including a plurality of cathode electrodes and a plurality of electron emission elements. Each of the cathode electrodes includes a terminal part and a plurality of electrode strips formed to extend from the terminal part. Each of the electrode strips includes: an electron emission part on which the electron emission elements are mounted; and a junction part arranged between the terminal part and the electron emission part. The closer to the terminal part, the greater the width of the junction part is.
