Abstract:

To provide a backup power supply unit capable of supplying electric power with high efficiency and stability even if power supply to an electronic apparatus is difficult by external electric power.

This backup power supply unit 10, when electric power of a predetermined reference level or higher is supplied from an AC power supply 12 through an AC/DC converter 14, supplies the electric power from the AC power supply 12 to a load apparatus 26 through the AC/DC converter 14. When the level of the electric power outputted from the AC/DC converter 14 is less than the reference level, the electric power to the load apparatus 26 from secondary battery 18 is supplied to start power generation for a fuel battery generating circuit 22. When the electric power of the reference level or higher is outputted from the fuel battery generating circuit 22, the electric power by the fuel battery generating circuit 22 in place of the secondary battery 18 is supplied to the load apparatus 26. Therefore, if the voltage level of the electric power supplied by the shut-down of AC voltage supplied from the AC power supply 12 drops, the electric power by the fuel battery generating circuit 22 can be supplied to the load apparatus 26. Thus, stabler electric power can be supplied to the load apparatus 26 over a long time even at the shut-down of AC voltage than in a conventional method which supplies electric power from the secondary battery 18 to the load apparatus 26.
