PURPOSE: To speed up the execution of inference by classifying the pattern of a problem dealt with by a system, defining a group of rules commonly used for each pattern and the group of rules specifically used for the respective patterns and restricing the number of rules to be applied on trial in the execution of the inference.
CONSTITUTION: When an expert system is constructed in the form of a backward inference type rule base system, by classifying the pattern of the problem dealt with by the expert system and defining a group 2 of the rules commonly used for each pattern and a group 3 of the rules specifically used for the respective patterns to group the rules, the number of rules which may be applied in the execution of the inference can be reduced.
