PURPOSE: To backwash a ceramic filter effectively without contamination with various germs nor lowering operating efficiency of a filter by pressurizing filtrate through a piston and liquid and backwashing it.
CONSTITUTION: A tubular ceramic filter 3 is installed inside a filter container 2, and raw liquid is passed through inside a filter 3 and filtered. Further, in the middle of filtration, an air drive unit 10 is actuated momentarily, and by applying the pressure thus generated to a piston 9 through oil 11, a pressure, larger than the pressure to the raw liquid inside the filter 3, is applied to the filter liquid in a filter container 1, and the filtrate is pressed into at a flow velocity faster than filtering velocity. As a result, a float valve 7 is closed and the materials adhered to the filtering face of the filter 3 are returned into raw liquid and backwashed. After that, the piston 9 is put back so as to make the volume change per hour in a cylinder 8 smaller than the filtering volume per unit hour.
