Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for the control of phytopathogenic bacteria, fungi and diseases caused thereby by using a benzophenone compound having a specific structure, capable of selectively controlling the phytopathogenic bacteria, fungi and diseases caused thereby, especially downy mildews such as mildew by the excellent bactericidal and fungicidal effects of the benzophenone compound.
SOLUTION: This method for the control of phytopathogenic bacteria, fungi and diseases caused thereby comprises bringing the phytopathogenic bacteria, fungi and diseases caused thereby into contact with a compound of formula I [R1 is a halogen, an alkyl or the like; (m) is 0-4; R2 is a halogen, nitro or the like; R3 is H, cyano or the like; R4 is H, an acyl or the like; R5 is H, a halogen or the like; (n) is 0-2; R6 is a halogen, an alkenyl or the like; X is O, S or the like; Y is O, sulfonyl or the like], preferably 2,3,5,6- tetramethyl-4',5',6'-trimethoxy-2'-methy1benzophenone, or the like. The compound of formula I is preferably obtained by a method comprising reacting a compound of formula II with a compound of formula III (one of Z1 and Z2 is H, and the other is COCl or the like). A part of the compound of formula I is new.
